A Letter From Rose

Who Says Warm, Steady Boots Have to Look Clumsy?

A mid-calf boot in warm brown with a soft knitted cuff, a side buckle and a low, balanced heel. The Bonnie keeps you steady and cozy through fall and winter, and still gives your legs a lovely line.

Me at my work table in our boutique here in Florida.

Imagine a crisp fall morning. The leaves are turning, you're heading out to meet your daughter for coffee, and you step out the door without a second thought. Your feet feel steady on the path, your legs are warm, and at the café she says: "Mom, those boots are so pretty. Where did you get them?"

Somewhere after sixty, most of the women I know started dreading boot season. Tall boots are a fight to get on, the pretty ones wobble or pinch, and the comfortable ones look so heavy and practical you'd rather not be seen in them. So you end up in sneakers with cold ankles all winter.

I don't think being steady and warm should mean giving up on looking nice.

Two sisters, one little boutique

Olivia and I grew up near Lake Como, where our grandmother taught us to look at clothes the way you look at something you plan to keep for years: the fabric, the seams, the way it moves when you walk. We both became fashion designers in Italy, and nearly 45 years ago we followed our hearts to Florida and opened our boutique.

Since then, so many women have come through our door telling us the same thing: "Nothing is made for me anymore." Too young, too revealing, or so plain you feel invisible. Finding the pieces that are made for the women we actually know, women in their sixties and seventies with full lives, became our life's work.

Every piece has to pass two tests

Back at the work table. Some habits from Lake Como never leave you.
Back at the work table. Some habits from Lake Como never leave you.

I want to be honest with you: I didn't design the Bonnie. These days Olivia and I hand-pick the pieces for our boutique, and every one of them has to pass two tests.

Olivia's test is the fit, the fabric and the finish. Is it comfortable, is it made properly, will it still look good after a season of wear? My test is the woman wearing it. Does it flatter her, does it make her feel like herself, and where will she wear it? Most pieces fail one of the two and go straight back.

I'll admit I almost passed on this one. Comfortable winter boots so often look clumsy, and I've seen too many "supportive" boots that pinch by lunchtime. Then Olivia had me wear them on a long walk on a cold morning. Here's why they passed both tests.

Finally, boots I feel steady walking in

The Bonnie boots by the back door on an autumn afternoon

The Bonnie has a low, balanced heel that gives you a grounded feel with every step. No wobbling, no worrying about your balance on a leafy path or a wet sidewalk. You simply walk with ease and confidence.

★★★★★

"At 66, I don't feel comfortable wearing high heels anymore because I'm always worried about losing my balance. The low, sturdy heel on these boots gives me so much more confidence. I can enjoy wearing stylish boots again without feeling wobbly."

Yvette N., Concord, NC

Comfortable enough to wear all day

The Bonnie is designed to feel steady and supportive from morning to evening. Shopping, a visit to the family, a walk after lunch: you can keep them on all day without counting the hours until you can take them off.

★★★★★

"I usually have to take my boots off after a few hours because my feet start aching. I wanted something I could wear while shopping or visiting family without constantly thinking about my feet. These feel comfortable for hours, and I love how supportive they feel."

Francesca D., Brookings, SD

So much easier to put on

Unboxing the Bonnie boots at the kitchen table

No more sitting on the edge of the bed, pulling and tugging at a tall boot. The Bonnie is easy to get on and off, so getting dressed on a busy morning is simple again.

★★★★★

"I'm 63 and don't enjoy struggling with tall boots anymore. I love having an easy way to get them on without all the pulling and tugging. The side zipper makes getting dressed much simpler, especially on busy mornings."

Katherine J., Dover, DE

Keeps my legs feeling cozy

A hand touching the soft knitted cuff of the Bonnie boot

This is the part that won me over. At the top of the boot sits a soft knitted cuff that adds warmth around your legs and makes the whole boot look cozy. On a cold morning walk, your lower legs and ankles stay comfortable.

★★★★★

"My lower legs and ankles get cold so easily, especially when I'm out walking. The soft knitted collar feels lovely around my legs, and I appreciate the extra coverage. They look so cozy with my favorite jeans tucked inside."

Esther P., Eau Claire, WI

Stylish without looking orthopedic

The mid-calf shape creates a flattering line along the leg, and the side buckle brings a little character to a clean, structured boot. Practical, yes, but it never looks bulky or orthopedic.

★★★★★

"I've reached the age where comfort matters more than anything, but I still want my shoes to look pretty. The buckle detail and beautiful shape make these boots feel so stylish. They give my legs a lovely line without looking bulky or overly practical."

Claudia V., Prescott, AZ

Such a versatile shade of brown

The Bonnie boots with dark jeans, a cream cardigan and a plaid scarf

This is my part. With dark jeans tucked in and a long cardigan for a fall walk. With leggings and a tunic for a day with the grandchildren. With a longer skirt for church or lunch out. Warm brown goes with almost everything.

★★★★

"I was hesitant to order brown boots because I usually wear black, but I'm glad I tried something different. This warm brown goes beautifully with my jeans, leggings and even longer skirts. I love having one pair of boots that works with so many outfits."

Marjorie K., Athens, GA

Breakfast with my granddaughter. This is what retirement is for.

After nearly 45 years in America, Olivia and I have decided it's time to retire from the boutique and spend more time with our husbands, our children and our grandchildren here in Florida.

The Bonnie is part of our final collection. When a size is gone, we won't be restocking it. So instead of carrying it into another season, we're saying goodbye to it with our Retirement Sale.

Nearly 45 YearsA lifetime in fashion

I don't usually write letters like this. But after a lifetime in fashion, I know when a piece is worth telling you about. If you've been dreading another winter in cold, clumsy boots, I hope you find your size before it's gone.

Thank you for giving two Italian sisters a home, a community and a lifetime of memories here in Florida.

With love, Rose 🤍
